Trendspot: Icy Sugar

The pastel trend has been a big hit since Spring 2012, but what is coming this winter and possibly onto Spring next year is probably going to be an evolved version of yummy pastels, into icier tones, exemplified by ornate, jewel embellishments (be it on shirts and sweaters, or ballerina flats, or accessories). Pearls are also finding their way into earrings, necklaces and as clothing embellishments. Silver is also making a big comeback, having been dominated by gold in the jewellery/accessories department for the past few years. Metallics and holographic fabrics are also popular. Basically, it’s pairing sugary sweet stuff against an icy cool silver backdrop. Although this trend is not widespread in NYFW, there’s been some fun metallics in London FW for Fall 2013.

Even though personally I’ve always been a black/gold kind of girl, this type of styling excites me and makes me want to experiment. Fabio’s (from Project Runway season 10) final collection Cosmic Tribalism also alludes to this trend. Black leather skirts and shoes are also popular, contrasting with the pastel tones.

Hair colours that are currently popular include cotton candy pink, silvery blonde, and lilac tones. Some fashion/jewellery/hair inspirations below.
